Lets start with a classic wall lantern from the folks at Sea Gull Lighting. Shown here is the SGL-8458DB-71. I know what you're thinking already. This isn't night sky friendly... this isn't neighbor friendly. Ah, but it is. True, the fixture looks very much like your typical brass and glass light bomb. But, and this is the important part, it hides the bulb inside an interior light shade.. Just a little ingenuity and you've turned a bad light into a stellar performer. As is typical of the outdoor lights offered by Starry Night Lights, you can't see the light bulb thereby eliminating up lighting and light trespass, two of the prime manifestations of light pollution.

Next up is the quintessential dark sky friendly light, the can light. Pictured here is the SGL-8338. Typically referred to as cans or cylinders, these fixtures engulf the bulbs they house way up inside of the fixture. Because of this, there is no place for the light to go except down, onto the ground. This is exactly where the light is needed, and where it belongs. With their sleek lines, these fixtures have a modern style befitting many newer homes.

Here's a sweet metal wall lantern. I know you're looking at this and saying... "have they lost their mind"? ... "it looks like every other glaring outdoor light fixture around my neighborhood". Well... only superficially. Take a closer look. What do you see? Or... better question... what don't you see? Answer: You don't see a light bulb. That's right... they've redesigned this very typical looking outdoor light fixture in a very non-typical way. The bulb is now located up inside the metal housing. Bingo... light pollution problem solved!

The MIN-8101-138 is an elegant fixture that'd be a nice addition to any environment requiring some night time illumination. Sporting a nice full cutoff design, this fixture puts the light on the ground, where its needed... and no place else. It's also a good example of wildlife friendly lighting. The reason for this... is that it lights just the area that needs to be lit... and won't shine off your property into areas inhabited by nocturnal critters.

Next, we have the MIN-8281-61 another gorgeous fixture that's as good looking as it is night sky friendly. The designers over at Minka sure did their homework... mounting the bulb up inside the metallic housing to prevent light from shining up into the night sky... or across property lines. Available as a wall mount or a post top fixture, this beauty will enhance any night time lighting scheme... all while being kind to the night sky... and your neighbors.
